Tens of thousands of boats including cruise ships stream
through this region every year. You can drop anchor at
any number of pristine harbors or near beautiful white
sand beaches. You can snorkel with turtles, rays and
reef fish or troll for fish, or bask in the delightful
warm sun and tropical breezes. The tradewinds blow in
across St Thomas providing a cool breeze.
On the Caribbean side of
the islands, the waters are calm and warm. If you don't
have your own boat you can charter one for a great
sailing adventure. Many day sailing adventures are
organized at the local harbors and yacht clubs so you
won't have to go far to find a sailing adventure here.
Outside and between the islands, you'll find many reefs
and you'll see mountainous islands too.

Charlotte Amalie
and St Thomas harbor is a busy port, but has some
excellent views that many sailors just don't want to
miss with views of the best
St. Thomas real estate.
There's plenty of places to set anchor or harbors to
pull into and then you can walk to town center.
Magens Bay
is on the north side of the Island offering one of the
finest beaches you'll see on the Virgin Islands.
Passengers from Cruise ships frequent this area so it
can get crowded. From here you can go onto see less
visited bays such as Botany Bay, Bordeaux Bay and Santa
Maria Bay. There are plenty of day sailing charter cruise operators on the islands, some offering extended private charters.
Caneel Bay in St John VI, has a beautiful white sand
beach where you can rest and the

day and full day sailing cruises including sunset
cruises available here.
On the Island of St
Croix, you'll find some great sailing. There's
competitive yacht races as well. The yearly Regatta on
labor day brings in local sailors from Iowa. The Pepin
Open Race is held July 1 and 2nd, and there are weekly
races and even racing training available if you're into
competitive sailing. Christiansted harbor and the waters
surrounding St. Croix provide a safe place to learn
sailing and the beautiful waters, hillsides, coves,
beaches make it a fun sailing experience for anyone.
